BemerkungenAny measurement, including the time at which the meteor was observed, is approximate, as I was casually attempting to observe the peak of the Perseid meteor shower and I did not expect to see a fireball with such proximity. It is my recollection that from my vantage point the meteor seemed to become visible in the sky at a position above Jupiter at about the same level as Saturn above the horizon, and disappeared at a position above Smithtown Bay in Long Island at about the same level as Jupiter above the horizon, though this recollection is also approximate. The duration of the object's glow was 2-3 s, though probably closer to 2 s. The object appeared to be of decent size, perhaps 3-5 times the apparent size of Jupiter.
