BemerkungenAs mentioned I was not looking in the direction of the potential fireball when it appeared so can only guess at the direction it first appeared, I was alerted by a very bright flash which lit up the castle walls (it was a moonless night and very dark) and turned my head to see an object about the brightness of Sirius heading very quickly down towards the Eastern horizon.

BemerkungenI did not see this directly so I am assuming this is what it was. I was actually facing away from the direction of the fireball, facing northwest as I was photographing the castle walls / sky above at the time. I was alerted by a bright flash that lit up the walls like a camera flash had gone off behind me. When I turned to see where the flash had come from is when I saw the fireball (about as bright as Sirius and totally white in colour) heading down towards the eastern horizon very quickly
